“2018 was a textbook vintage in the Napa Valley. Ample winter rains allowed the vines on our
incredibly steep hillside vineyard to thrive, producing strong canopies and quite a generous
crop. The vineyard—organically and meticulously farmed in the Coombsville appellation—has
historically produced wines that truly express the site and the nuances of the vintage. In 2018,
the story was one of depth, concentration, and richness. The mildly warm California summer
extended will into September, allowing our grapes to enjoy a full growing season, maturing the
tannins to their full potential.
The 2018 Emmaus Cabernet has aromas of bing cherry, licorice, gravel and clove. The color is a
black red-purple, and the flavors are equally deep and powerful. The palate impression is one
of power and precision, with the fine tannins being pointed at the tip of the tongue. There is
remarkable intensity, and the wine is lush and expansive. This velvety soft texture follows
through to the finish, which is driven along by a fresh wave of mouthwatering acidity. The wine
is more open and accessible as it could be at such a young age, something that bodes well for its
future. It should age in bottle easily for two decades or more.” – Andy Erickson, Winemaker
